GERMAN SPEAKING CHILDCARE WORKER (LONG DAY CARE) (3-5 YRS) / ALEXANDRIA

FROEBEL is a non-profit high-quality childcare provider. We offer advanced bilingual early childhood education and care in the tradition of Friedrich Fröbel, the German educator who developed the kindergarten concept some 200 years ago.

Bilingual early learning is an integral part of our educational philosophy. At FROEBEL Alexandria we introduce a 2nd language (German) to the children which is perpetually used by native German-speaking teachers throughout the day. English and German speaking staff work together in the same room. Following the principle “One person, one language” children learn the 2nd language in a playful way through the immersion concept similar to their mother tongue.

We are currently looking for a full-time, native German-speaking educator for our bilingual long day care centre in Alexandria, a service licensed for 44 children from 6 weeks to 6 years and high-quality accredited in May 2011.

You will be responsible for

• Working with the room leader of the 3-5 room (with 24 children) in planning and implementing the educational program which values a holistic view of each child's development and implements the Early Years Learning Framework;
• Implementing our bilingual program by cooperatively working with the English-speaking staff in your room;
• Assisting with observations and evaluations on a weekly basis;
• Maintaining ongoing records of the children’s development, program and daily information;
• Assisting with children's portfolios;
• Assisting with daily room tasks - e.g. activity preparation and meal times;
• Assuring the high quality of care in consideration of NCAC/NQF standards;
• Ensuring compliance with relevant Government Regulations;
• Ensuring exchange on children’s development and progress with parents and colleagues.

To be eligible for this position you must

• have a Certificate III in Children's Services (or higher) OR be Staatlich anerkannte Erzieherin/staalich anerkannter Erzieher (German qualification) OR have equivalent qualifications;
• be a native German-speaker;
• be fluent in English;
• hold a current First Aid certificate,
• have experience in working with children aged 2-5,
• have a great personality, creativity, passion for childcare, communicational skills, curiosity for early language learning and intercultural competencies;
• be a creative and cooperative team person who loves and respects children in all their individuality and developmental stages;
• be committed to excellence in childcare and early childhood education;
• have the right to live and work in Australia (please note that Working Holiday Makers will NOT be considered for this position; long-term commitment should be intended).
